Deliciously dark and sweetly twisted, like the siren calls of a murderess, Pia & Tora make a seductive and haunting sound. Part lost Dusty Springfield demo and part cinema soundtrack, it's an intriguing mix and one that, like a lovers last text, is curiously addictive.
Pia Mythen Eriksen & Tora Söderström Gaden (Norweigian if you were wondering) became Pia & Tora in 2006, getting together for a local music competition. Their partnership quickly crystalised and after a stint of writing new material, with a few covers thrown in, they decamped to the Vinterland Studio to record early this year.
Carousel is like a Twin Peaks version of Leader of the Pack,
beautifuly mornful but strangely sinister. It sounds more like an alibi
than an ode. Similarly, Jealously gently spits the line " do you remember how her skin felt beneath your hands?" before stabbing pianos dance off into cabaret drama.
It's early days yet for Pia & Tora, no deal yet and only a handful
of Myspace plays, but sometimes you just know that won't be the story
for long.
