Arctic Monkeys look like they'll be hogging the stage at next months NME awards with a record 7 nominations in the Best Band, Best Live, Best Album, Best Track (Fluorescent
Adolescent), Best Video (Teddy Picker) and Best Album Artwork
categories.
Frontman Alex Turner also has a nomination all to himself in the Best
Dressed Male category. The band have now gained an impressive 15
NME nominations over the last few years – making them the most voted for band of
the decade. As normal, NME readers will decide this year's winners.
The usual mix of 'should be there's and 'you can't be serious's include The Cribs: Best British Band, Best Live Band,
Best Track (Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever) and Hero of The Year
for Ryan Jarman. Mercury Music Prize winners Klaxons are in the running
for another clutch of honours: Best British Band, Best Album, Best
Video (Golden Skans) and Best Dancefloor Filler (Atlantis To Interzone).
30 Seconds To Mars, Fall Out Boy, The Hoosiers, My
Chemical Romance and Panic At The Disco will battle it out for Worst
Band, whilst Amy Winehouse and George Bush go head to head for villain of the year. A strange pairing you might think, but for handling self esteem and control issues it's a close run thing.
The 2008 NME Awards take place at London's IndigO2, within the 02 Arena, on 28 February.
