After more than 3 months of auditions, gigs, storming sets and bruised egos, Channel 4's great 'mobileAct unsigned' has been won by Birmingham quartet Envy and Other Sins.
The group, who were returned to the final four by way of public
vote, beat all the competition at the Grand Final on Christmas Eve, landing a deal with A&M records and a major change in fortunes.
Hailing from Birmingham, and name checking The Kinks, Roxy Music and
Super Furry Animals in their list of influences, Envy & Other Sins'
first single, Highness, is set to be released on A&M on February
11,
with an album to follow on March 3.
EAOS band blog says, "2008 is going to be a very different year to
the one we envisaged a couple of weeks ago, and we have you (Channel 4
voters) to thank for it!"
Frontman Jarvey Moss added “This is the dawning of the age of
furniture rock – we never expected our big break to be on a reality
show; we’ve always been about making music and now we’ve got the chance
to do it on a bigger stage.”
The 12 week competition saw judges Jo Whiley, Alex
James A&M boss Simon Gavin and a stream of guest judges work their way through hundreds
of bands, some great, some not so great, finishing up with 2 finalists, Envy and Other Sins and Revenue.
