Following a nationwide tour
with Art Brut in February of this year, We Are The Physics and Duels label mates Popular Workshop skived off to Chicago to record
their debut album We're
Alive, And We're Not Alone with the mighty Steve Albini. You'll have to wait until September to hear it, but the first single from it, Popsong, is out a little sooner on July 7th
on This Is Fake DIY Records and supported by a short UK tour.
Apparently the band came together through "a love of abrasive guitars and
collapsing drums" when "pseudo-brothers" (whatever that means) Jake and Luke hooked up with Gypsy
and told him to "sing whilst
playing the guitar". No small feat and he was understandably reluctant. "Sing or die" they told him and eventually Gypsy, being compliant by nature, obliged. We jammed Popsong into the MuHead Comparometer and it said "like the guy from Camper Van Beethoven singing with Placebo"... and it's never wrong.
