After the
demise of Brighton based rock outfit Cat on
Form, guitarist Steven Ansell joined forces with Laura-Mary Carter and Bloody
Red Shoes were born. With Ansell
switching to drums/vocals and Laura Mary taking on guitar and vocals duties, the
duo prove to be a winning combination.
The rock/grunge group (n.b.- they don’t
liked being called an indie band) return with the last single to be released
from their much lauded debut album ‘Box of Secrets’. It’s testament to the
quality of their first long-player that the last single upholds such a high
standard.
This Is Not For You is a fantastic slice of hard rock with a great
big hook which takes up residency in your brain and refuses to leave. Whilst
most of their peers deliver vocal performances drenching in desperation, Ms.
Carter sings with a reassured confidence which is refreshing. Just don’t call
them an indie group or else!
Quiet loud quiet – it’s a tried and tested formula. The Blood red shoes do it pretty well, and ‘This is not for you’ treads in the footsteps of famous QLQ indie tunes ‘Cannonball’ and ‘Smells like teen spirit’.
This Brighton boy and girl’s debut ‘Box of secrets’ has been going down a storm and this, their ninth single so far, plays on the ‘are they, aren’t they?’ questions about the pair.
