The greatest punk rock band to come out of Hertfordshire do the Astoria supported by Fucked Up and Anti-Flag.
The first thing that has to be said about a Gallows show is that the
crowd are amazing. Anti-Flag had the mass Moshing, Pogo'ing and pits all
over and this being an 'all-ages' gig, the kids were out to show
how it should be done. There was just something niggling about
Anti-Flag however...dare I say that if you shut your eyes, it could
have been an Avril Lavigne gig... pop/punk eat your heart out!
Gallows however, had a raw energy that took just seconds to rub off onto everyone. They were clearly enjoying themselves and putting their all into it and as they came alive they delivered a truly memorable set. Furious vocals and frantic playing, they were as visually entertaining as they sounded.
Their cover of Black Flag's mighty 'Nervous Breakdown' was introduced with guidelines on how the circle pit should go; "If you see anyone fall over, pick them em, smack em on the ass and tell them to run faster!". Finishing up the set with lead singer Frank Carter putting his arms up and screaming 'My name is Cassinova!' to introduce perhaps their greatest song- Orchestra of Wolves, to an energy hungry crowd who lapped it up.
The Gallows are one of the most exciting punk rock bands around, fusing punk, hardcore, and metal. We should all hope that this is the shape of future punk to come.
Gallows live are probably the closest you will get to a Hardcore atmosphere without being at a CBGB's gig in the late 80's.
