Ok, I know what you're thinking; 'Gigs at student unions don't really count'.. right? I say why not? Some bands excel at intimate venues and some rule the stadiums. Menomena definitely excelled in this student haven.

A 3 piece from Portland signed to indie label Barsuk, Menomena manage to mix up a good blend of experimental, rock, pop with a little electronica. These guys really put their all into it and the fusion gave a surprising amount of loved 'oooomph' to the crowd.

Menomena's 3rd album Friend or Foe is mostly backing tracks and studio production which can be a tough trick for 3 people to replicate live. Thankfully they don't struggle. Synths, Laptops, Keyboards, Sax, Baritone guitars and Basses were being passed around the band like a game of musical instruments!

Brownie points need to be handed out to drummer Danny Seim for mixing up timings and moving behind the beat one minute and ahead the next - timing was perfect without a single flaw.
