Multiple musical orgasms, making 10 phone calls spreading the word that It's been released, spamming everyone I know about this and it hasnt even started to set in. It's not really possible to explain how mindblowing Russian Circles are. I confess my undying love from the rooftop of my humble Hackney Abode. All hail and bow your heads to the best record of this generation!
Ok, so if you haven't guessed, Im kinda a fan of Russian Circles. I
stumbled upon them due to an infactuation of another band (Minus the
Bear) who are label buddies on Suicide Squeeze Records. I managed to
track down their first record Enter
on wax a few years back and have since then been dreaming of the day
when music will once again make my jaw drop, make me salivate and
mutter humina humina humina over and over.
Introducing - STATION.
I literally have goosebumps for their new release (out today- so a quick shout-out to the awesome team at Suicide Squeeze for getting it on my doorstep this morning!)
So here is the low-down on your new favourite band- Russian Circles. They are a 3 piece made up from numerous outstanding bands such as These Arms are Snakes. We're talking kinda post-rock/metal/noise/math-rock. Purely instrumental songs so there is absolutely NO filler. Think Pelican with a little tool and you're getting close. This record is quite different from their previous masterpiece, there is a new tasty softer side showing through and a couple of tracks could well be what you could imagine Explosions in the Sky would sound like if given megadeath distortion pedals.
Its delicate/aggressive/ sooo very technical but still tight and straight to the point. This is the kind of record that will (and i mean it WILL) have you thrashing in your seat or slowly nodding approvals. Everyone who likes to get down and dirty needs a little breather and it seems that this record has been produced and even ordered like a live show. A nice chilled out intro track Versus that teases us as we know what is coming up soon via soft synths, melodic guitars with a filthy distorted bass line. All of the members excel and have welcome seats in my dream lineup (drummer Dave Turncrantz is in my opinion the best out there).
I was lucky enough to catch them supporting Tool last year, delivering a mesmerising performance that left the entire audience breathless.
If you do one thing you wouldn't normally do this week, take my word for it and check this band out and buy their record (I just ordered each colour of the vinyl..- maybe I should keep that quiet actually!)
Been checking these guys out and there's some great stuff on the album.. kind of like Sigur Ros meets Metallica, with a bit of Yes.
Very proggy, very cool..
