The fourth release from the emerging Ground Level label sees Stylus Rex back in the production hot-seat after appearing on the first of the new labels releases - the critically acclaimed Serious Wobble back in 2007.
Cops on Coke is a solid slice of breaks/electro house that's aimed directly at the dancefloors of clubs like Fabric...and it hits it's target.
Massive, dirty electro bass fuzzes under pounding drums, all tied together with an annoyingly memorable wobbly hook. The breakdown produces sweeping pads that have a distinctly summer vibe, and this is where you'll be hearing the track - in a club this summer. Dancing about like an idiot whilst trying to avoid the showers of barcardi and coke thrown around by the hordes of drunken revellers and the gaze of some 17 year old kid with suspiciously large pupils desperate for an in-depth conversation.
Stylus Rex's growing repututation within the breaks/electro house scene is sure to be improved with this release, and if your a fan of Meat Katie, Stanton Warriors and crew then you should be checking this release out.
The flip sees Strider take on the remix duties, and doing an impressive job. Still keeping the same electro/breaks format as the original, this track will be equally at home being blasted out of a club sound system at silly o'clock in the morning. A trip down to the 'Cops on Coke' release party on the 14th of March in London should prove the point!
The commercial and easily accessible nature of this release will perhaps keep the beard-stroking Nu-Skool Breaks geeks at bay (every music sub-genre has them...) but theres no pleasing everyone, and on the whole this looks set to do pretty well.
Cops on Coke is released on the 3rd March on vinyl and digital formats.
