Super producer, dj, multi instrumentalist and songwriter Tyrrell is back with his latest set of syncopated ear-drumming tunes.
Heading down a different road to successful nu-jazz project Interfearance, Tyrrell mixes up a sweet cocktail of funky breaks, minimal electro and down-tempo chill, all served up in one cool EP, Robofucius.
Funked up sun kissed break-beat jam Robofucius sees Tyrrell laying down all the instruments. The slap bass provides the funk, the sweet synths cover the sun and the percussive backdrop gives the beat. It's not the best track here though, drifting eventually into repetition and it could use a creative noose on the all too common ‘surprise’ bridge key changes.
So picture the scene; It’s the end of the night and once again you find yourself relying on the edge of the bar as your only means of support, but through the slight creases between your eyelids you can still just about see and wonder two things;
1. Why are you the only person being supported by the bar... again.
2. Why on earth is there a queue for the dance floor??
And then it clicks, LaLaLaLaLaLa has entered the building. Burning more rubber than a Ferrari F60, the deliciously deep melody line, addictive pumping bass and soul clap claps will have dance floors around the U.K begging for mercy.
Closer As I Listen is reminiscent of lazy Sunday afternoons spent watching back to back episodes of ‘feel good’ TV. It takes you back to the time when life had no worries, a time of untucked school shirts when underage alcohol acquisition was the chief concern. This downbeat number is a retro slice of chilled heaven complemented by former Break Reform vocalist Nanar’s hypnotic voice and a mellow bass line, catchy guitar hook and a sweet gushing pad that will have you the in mood for doing.... absolutely nothing.
Tyrrell’s Robofucius is well worth a punt, no matter whether you’re an electro, house or down-tempo head there’s a little sumthin sumthin for you. Also catch the superb remix package in May.
